Emma

This is for all you Jane Austen fans out there! Last year at this same time I remember blogging about Charles Dickens' "Little Dorrit." This time it is about one of Jane Austen's classics, "Emma." It will be airing Jan 24th-Feb7 (every Sunday night for 3 weeks) at 9 pm on PBS.

I was extremely impressed and moved by last years "Little Dorrit" and as my family can attest to, I raved about it for like a month straight. Having seen and loved that miniseries, I am hoping that this one will live up to it's predecessor. I have seen several versions of Emma (my favorite being with Gwyneth Paltrow) and am looking forward to this new one.

If you are not familiar with the story of "Emma," here is a synopsis:

Emma Woodhouse (Romola Garai, Atonement) was born with the sun shining down on her. The radiant, privileged girl grows into a remarkable talent for matchmaking, as observed by her loving but disapproving father (Michael Gambon, Cranford) and childhood friend Mr. Knightley (Jonny Lee Miller, Endgame). When the decidedly less privileged Harriet Smith arrives, Emma meddles with fate to find her a match, until her flawless intuition is called into question. Dissuaded from more matrimonial predictions, Emma nonetheless continues to cheerfully contemplate superior men — and meets one of her own in the handsome, gleaming Frank Churchill. But after being so busy managing everyone else's heart, does Emma know her own? A fiercely funny new version of the Jane Austen novel, Emma was adapted by Sandy Welch (Jane Eyre).

As far as the actors go, I am interested to see how they do. I have seen several period dramas with Romola Garai and caught a few episodes of the tv series, Eli Stone. Jonny Lee Miller, who plays the lawyer, is the guy playing the part of Mr. Knightly.

So, sounds good huh? And if you wish to see a preview or to learn more, visit Masterpiece Classic's website: www.pbs.org/wgbh/masterpiece/ They also have a list of the other movies that will be playing this spring, one of them being a brand new version of "The Diary of Anne Frank."

Well, hoping this will be good...
